The Anaerobic Fungi Network regularly organizes various events. For now, AFN events are only open to AFN members, but AFN membership is free of charge! Anyone interested can become an AFN member either by using the contact form or sending an email to anaerobicfunginetwork@gmail.com. In addition to participation in AFN events, AFN members can also benefit from weekly update emails.

AFN Webinar Series

The AFN webinar series was launched in 2020 and is hosted by Dr Joan Edwars and Julia Vinzelj. These online events are held quarterly and allow our members to present and discuss their research within our community. Past presenters include our featured researchers Sumit Singh Dagar, Michelle O’Malley, Yanfen Cheng, and Radwa Hanafy, as well as many other distinguished scientists and their students from all over the world.

The International Anaerobic Fungi Congress

The first International Anaerobic Fungi Congress was held in 2022 (IAFC2022). This large online event took place in September 2022 spread out over 24 hours and was meant to bring our members from all over the world together in a virtual conference venue (GatherTown), to meet, present and discuss.

Since this conference was well-received and we enjoyed ourselves a lot, we are currently planning the next installment of the IAFC, which will likely take place in 2024.

Workshops

As per our members request, we initiated some workshops that revolve around the research on anaerobic fungi.

In July 2023 Dr Noha Youssef and Dr Liren Huang held the “Anaerobic Fungi Diversity Analysis Workshop”.
