Liebetanzomyces was the eleventh anaerobic fungal genus to be described. Liebetanzomyces is morphologically similar to Piromyces, Buwchfawromyces, Pecoramyces and Oontomyces due to it having a monocentric thallus and monoflagellated zoospores.
